Opening Reception for The Figure As Vehicle - This Sunday, 2/21 at Gateway Center for the Arts

Please join watercolor artist John Carollo for the opening reception of his new collaborative show with accomplished sculptors Marsha De Broske and Daryl Golden at the beautiful Gateway Center for the Arts in Debary, FL - Sunday, February 21, from 2-4 PM.

From the press release:

"The Figure has been drawn, painted, sculpted, carved, photographed and videotaped. It has been depicted from cave drawings to the present, used as a focal point of contemplation from ancient sculpture through Renaissance sensuality, to modern abstraction. Meaning, emotional connection and invitations for thought, connection and understanding are often reflected through its shape, positioning or setting.

Our figures move beyond form to become vehicles for conveying messages to the viewer. They can be a voyage between worlds or time - gestural and stately, relaxed or straining with tension. Though we work in different mediums, a binding through line we share is the invitation each of our pieces offers the viewer to find a personal connection and interpretation with our work."

Having been in development for nearly a year, The Figure As Vehicle features over 50 original pieces by the three artists, including a new 9 foot tall watercolor and mixed-media installation by John Carollo. The show's next stop in 2010 is at the Annette Howell Turner Center for the Arts in Valdosta, GA from August 9 - September 22, so this is your chance to catch its Florida premiere before it goes on the road.

The Gateway Center for the Arts is located in Debary's Gateway Park at the corner of Saxon Blvd. and 17-92: 880 N. Highway 17-92, Debary, FL 32713.
