Now available in the Naked Eye Studios Etsy Shop are hand-painted ceramic plates, goblets and a fun Chinese food/rice bowl, complete with chopsticks! A flurry of energy and color swirls around these pieces, which are glazed, dishwasher safe, fired ceramic - suitable for food/serving use, or great for adding some artistry to a wall or shelf display.

Also just added to the shop are the first dynamic hand-painted 100% silk habotai scarves. Available in sizes 8x72" - perfect for an accent or tie or 15x60" - large enough to be a small shoulder wrap, these flowing accessories feature rich, beautiful translucent color.

John Carollo's distinctive Controlled Chaos painting style combines beautifully with the smoothly rippling nature of real silk. These scarves are one-of-a-kind, original creations that can provide an unusual and unique splash of color and style to any outfit. Truly wearable art from an established artist, the colors combine in flowing and unusual blends and fades, projecting a varied and ever-changing appearance depending on how the scarf is worn or draped.

Not leaving traditional watercolor behind, four small original paintings are now displayed in the shop, as well as a signed, first edition copy of John's coffee table book - Liquid Thoughts: The Watercolors of John Carollo. The 11x8.5" volume features 21 pages of full-color photos of John's work, ranging from 2D figures and nature scenes to large 3D mixed-media and silk sculptures. Makes a great gift or addition to your own library.

See John Carollo and his Art in the Maitland Art Center's pARTicipation 2009

MAY 4, 2009 - ORLANDO, FL - John Carollo has been selected for pARTicipation 2009, an offering of the Maitland Art Center in Maitland, FL. This unique event is free and open to the public and takes place in two parts: an exhibit in the MAC's Main Gallery which runs from May 2-16, and the outdoor Art in the Gardens Spring Festival - Saturday, May 16, from 10 AM - 4 PM.

At the opening reception for the gallery show on Friday, May 8 from 6-9 PM, art patrons and members of the public can meet, greet and hear about the artwork from all of the artists, and, in a unique opportunity, have a chance to bid on 45 minute instructional sessions that each artist has donated. A silent auction will be taking place where 3 sessions with each artist are available for the highest bidding participants. All funds generated from these sessons will benefit the Maitland Art Center.

The following Saturday, John will be at the outdoor event in the gardens painting live all day and showing additional artwork for purchase. The three winning bidders will have their sessions scheduled during this day and all members of the public are invited to watch his technique, ask questions and generally have a great time.

Food, drink and live music will help make the event even more festive and it is expected to be a great opportunity for the whole family to enjoy the recently completely redone gardens while they interact with John and the other artists in a wonderful atmosphere of creativity.

ABOUT JOHN CAROLLO

John Carollo is a noted abstract watercolor artist based in Orlando, FL. He is a 2007 United Arts of Central Florida Professional Development Grant recipient - funds from which were used for creation of large-scale watercolor paintings in the 6-8' range. In addition to these works, John has created 3D installations, utilizing watercolor and mixed media and has been largely recognized for his portrayals of dancers in motion.

Working with a technique he calls Controlled Chaos, John's free-flowing approach to watercolor allows the paint and water to make many of the decisions regarding the final appearance of the piece, as they move across the paper largely unimpeded. His emphasis on motion and the emotional interplay of warm and cool colors produces creations that are atypical from what is often expected from the watercolor medium. You can learn more about John and view examples of his work at his recently completely redone website, www.NakedEyeStudios.com.

John Carollo to Donate Educational Time to Conway Elementary

APRIL 24, 2009 - ORLANDO, FL - Orlando-based abstract watercolor artist John Carollo will be sharing his painting technique for the the third time with the children of Conway Elementary School at their annual Arts At Conway educational event. In what has become a yearly tradition, John will provide live demonstrations of the unique effects that can be achieved with watercolor to two groups of students on April 29, 2009.

Always a fun and inspirational event, John focuses on three basic techniques that the kids can latch onto and try with their own paints in art class: wet on wet, wet on dry, and dry on wet. The children's enthusiasm is always a treat and for John, one of the most enjoyable moments is opening the packet of hand-painted thank-you notes the kids always send a few weeks later, demonstrating  the techniques they learned during the demo. John's hope is always that they remember some of the things he taught them and is consistently amazed at the detailed recollections many of them have of the presentation. With arts always being the first offering to be cut in difficult budgetary times, it is wonderful that Conway Elementary continues to provide this opportunity for their students to interact with and learn from professional artists.
